Exercise machines such as treadmills can be great for weight loss,
but how often should you use them, what kind to buy, how much to pay
and how do you use them for best results? The best way to use
treadmills is to take advantage of their settings they offer - mainly
incline and speed.
The best setting for weight loss is without a doubt full speed and full incline - but obviously nobody could sustain that for more than a minute or so, so how do you judge what to set your treadmill at?
1. Treadmill settings
If you are just starting on the path to weight loss set a speed at one you feel you could keep up for an hour, just faster than walking. If you are already fit and ready to rock, then setting the treadmill at around 5mph is a reasonable start.
You need to realize that your body burns the most fat when you exercise at a more or less continuous speed for half an hour to 45 minutes - so don't exhaust yourself too early on in the game.
Incline settings are for when you are running hard at a fast speed (advanced) and you need more resistance than the speed is offering - so unless you are already a fast runner with a big gas tank, don't worry about the incline setting for at least a few months.
2. Type, price and frequency of Treadmill Use
Although there are different types of treadmills available - most are similar with acts like the Consumer Guarantee Act making sub-standard products nearly a thing of the past.
Buying them off Amazon is very easy to do and you can compare reviews to see which one seems the best - this takes a lot of the guess work out of it.
As for price - you still get what you pay for, and that will never change.
If you want one with a heart rate monitor, calories burned, miles covered, HIIT capabilities etc you will pay extra. The best advice is to pay for the best you can afford - you will put hundreds of miles on the machine and you want one that will last, but you also don't need one with a high def television and full surround sound on it.
If you are wanting to lose weight - you must realize that weight loss comes from a combination of exercise and nutrition, one without the other is like Batman without his cape - useless.
